Marvin Gaye

Born in Washington, D.C. on April 2, 1939, Marvin first sang and played organ in his father's church. He described the immediate sense of reward in a famous quote: "The ladies in the church, they would hug me and bring me to them. Psychologically, sensually, I liked this."

Marvin sang about how he lived and the demons he was dealing with. He was deeply affected by his brother Frankie's stories from the battlefields of Vietnam and determined to respond to the social change of the times.

This documentary tells how he lived right up to Marvin's tragic death in 1984 by his father's hand stunned a following that had come to treasure his talents and insights.
